Forecast: Not quite as hot for a few days

After a week of record and near-record highs for the area, the next few days look to be sidewalk egg-fryers, too; however, highs should become more consistent with seasonal averages, forecasters say.
“We’re looking at a typical summertime forecast right through next week, with highs in the low 90s and lows in the lower 70s,” said Frank Taylor, a spokesman for the National Weather Service at Peachtree City. “This forecast is typical for August. The hot weather the last four or five days has been warmer than normal, but it’s trending back toward the norm.”
Today’s forecast calls for partly cloudy skies with a high near 96, but heat index values could reach as high as 102. The chance of precipitation is 20 percent. Expect isolated showers, with thunderstorms also possible. Tonight’s low should be around 74.
On Sunday, look for more scattered showers and thunderstorms to interrupt partly cloudy skies, with a high near 92 and heat index values again over 100. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent.
The coming week should see more of the same, with hot days and the unstable atmosphere creating a 20-30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms each day.
