Man jailed for rape, molestation

A Rocky Face man faces charges of aggravated sodomy, statutory rape and aggravated child molestation for allegedly having sex with a 14-year-old girl.

The Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday charged Richard Paul Knight, 22, of 2333 Landfill Road, with those charges and contempt of court. Capt. Rick Swiney with the sheriff’s office said a friend of Knight allowed Knight to move in with his family from June to October 2007. Earlier this year, the girl told a school counselor she and Knight had sex. The counselor notified the sheriff’s office and, after an investigation, sheriff’s officials arrested Knight.

Knight remained in jail on Wednesday, and no bond had been set. He is expected to appear in Superior Court on Friday, a jail official said.
