Blanche Brooker Houston
Blanche Brooker Houston, 90, of Dalton, passed away Monday, April 14, 2008, at Hamilton Medical Center.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lebron Houston; parents, John Allen and Edna Brooker; sisters, Wylene Brooker, Doris Garrett and Becky Richards; brother, John Henry Brooker.
Mrs. Houston was a charter member of Brooker cousins and enjoyed the title of “Oldest Living Brooker.” She participated in Miss Nursing Home Georgia Contest in 2007 at Stone Mountain. She is a lifelong resident of Whitfield County, a lifelong member of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church and was employed many years by Dalton Public Schools as well as the Bon Ton Apparel Shop.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Pamela and John Monroe of Duluth; granddaughters, Bonnie Lewis of Roswell, Kelly Schupfer and husband Rob of Winter Park, Fla.; grandsons, Roy Lewis Jr. of Cohutta and Brian Lewis of Dalton; great-grandsons, Roy Lewis III and Troy Lewis, both of Athens and Cory Lewis of Cohutta; great-granddaughter, Karina Beavers of Cohutta; many nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
Services are today at 1 p.m. at the Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church with the Rev. Ray Camp officiating. Burial will be in Grove Level Cemetery. A white dove release ceremony will conclude the service. Active pallbearers will be the members of the Joy Class of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church.
