Fog was a surprise to cyclists

To the editor:

We at the Northwest Georgia Southern Off Road Bicycle Association (SORBA) appreciate the comments and concern shown by the caller in Monday’s forum.

We apologize for any inconvenience the bikers created on Dug Gap Mountain Road. The bicyclists were finishing the Snake Creek Gap 6 mountain time trial. Riders were on the Pinhoti Trail system for 17 to 34 miles until the last mile back down to the staging area at the trade center. This race brought 234 riders from seven states to Dalton last Saturday. Our thanks to the downtown trolley for assisting with our transportation needs.

NWGA Sorba advocates safety in all aspects of bicycling. We really had no idea Saturday would be so foggy and will certainly request that our racers use head and taillights if this happens in the future. We will be hosting the time trial series again on Feb. 7 and March 7 and invite the public.

See www.nwgasorbaorg for details.
