Dalton man ejected from vehicle killed

A Dalton man was killed late Thursday night when he was struck by another vehicle after being ejected from his pickup truck.

John McDermott, 44, of 200 Matlock Drive, lost control of his 1988 GMC around midnight Thursday on Airport Road south of Hopewell Baptist Church, according to a report by Trooper Rick Ceballos with the Georgia State Patrol. McDermott was hit by the vehicle of a driver who topped a hill and did not see him in the road.

Ceballos reported that McDermott was not wearing a seat belt and that alcohol may have been involved in the original wreck. No charges were filed. Deputy coroner Russell Wilson said McDermott died at the scene from multiple trauma injuries.
