Due to a tied vote, the Catoosa County Library will remain closed on Sundays until the library board’s next meeting, which is in October.

At the called meeting on July 20, the vote was 2-2, said board member Darlene Cutler.

The board meets the first Thursday in January, April, July and October.

The library board is a five member panel. A fifth member has not been appointed by the Catoosa County commissioners.

Cutler said she hopes the board votes to reinstate the operating hours on Sunday.

“This is something that I think should never have happened,” she said. “I’m community-driven. You never cut services.”

The Board of Commissioners has requested that the library remain open, according to Cutler.

The decision to close the library on Sundays was not budget-driven, she said.

It was an effort to give the library employees their Sundays off, but Cutler said working on Sunday was “not a hardship.”

The employees rotated the shifts so that each person would work a Sunday every four weeks for the four operating hours.

The library used to be open 1:30 to 5:30 p.m. on Sundays.

The employee who worked on Sunday was given Monday off.
