Streets to be closed for Friday night race

Several streets will be closed for part of Friday evening in downtown Dalton to make way for the annual Silver Bell Sprint road race. Street closures will be made at approximately 6 p.m. and streets are expected to re-open at approximately 8 p.m.

The one-mile fun run starts at 6 p.m. at City Park School. The route is down Valley Drive to Emery Street, then a return down Emery Street to Valley Drive and City Park School.  

The 5K (3.1 mile) Silver Bell Sprint will start at approximately 7 p.m. at City Park School. The route will run south on Valley Drive to Cuyler Street, east on Cuyler Street to Pentz Street, south on Pentz Street to Emery Street, west on Emery Street to Thornton Avenue, south on Thornton Avenue to Franklin Street, east on Franklin Street to Hamilton Street and north on Hamilton Street to the railroad tracks. The race then turns south on Hamilton Street back to Morris Street, west on Morris Street to Pentz Street, north on Pentz Street to Waugh Street, west on Waugh Street to Thornton Avenue, south on Thornton to School Street, and then to the finish at City Park School.

“Dalton Police officers will be on hand to barricade the affected roads and direct traffic around the race course,” said spokesman Bruce Frazier. “If you must travel in the downtown area on Friday night, please plan an alternate route.”
