Comedian Gregory first to take GEM stage in Calhoun

After nearly 10 years of planning, fundraising and restoring, Calhoun’s GEM Theatre is re-opening this month. The “Funniest Man In America” James Gregory will be the first to take the GEM stage on Saturday, Aug. 27, at 7 p.m.

Gregory has been performing homespun comedy to soldout crowds for more than 25 years, delivering common sense wisdom, old-fashioned values and politically incorrect humor,
A select number of tickets are $30 and all others are $25. Tickets can be purchased at the Calhoun-Gordon County Chamber, Fitness First of Calhoun, Red Door Cafe’ and online at www.calhoungem.org.
The original GEM is best remembered as a movie theater, but the renovated 460-seat GEM will showcase a variety of entertainment, including concerts, plays, traveling productions and classic movies. Most importantly, the GEM will be the community’s theater, available to schools, organizations, businesses and individuals.
Upcoming events include dance party with the Buckner Brothers & The Rockingbirds bands (Sept. 17), GEM grand opening gala featuring classic movies and Ronnie McDowell show (Oct. 15), Motown & More with Maxwell Taylor (Nov. 19).
