Vinnie Elaine Roach, who was born in Whitfield County on Sept. 22, 1919, made her transition on Oct. 28, 2011.

Vinnie was the ninth of 10 children born to the late Parizade Griffin Roach and Hillie Roach. Vinnie’s sisters and brothers who have also made their transition include Flossie Orr, Estelle Helton, Burns Roach, Olera Wade, Irvine Roach and H.G. Roach, and most recently Laura Mae Roach Burns.

After graduation from Valley Point High School, Vinnie attended and earned her diploma from the Artistic Beauty Institute in Atlanta on Jan. 8, 1941. Vinnie worked as a beautician for several years before she moved into the home of her sister, Laura Burns, shortly after the death of Laura’s husband, Cecil Burns and the birth of their son, Dan Burns. She continued to live with Laura for over 65 years and maintained her role as a second mother to Dan during that time.

Vinnie cared for her nephew during his early developmental years and later returned to the workforce at Strain Feed and Coal, which was owned by her late brother–in-law, Willard Strain. She them began to work at Decorating Supply where she worked alongside her sister, Laura, as well as her older sister, brother-in-law, and nephew, the late Flossie Orr, Luther Orr and L.S. Orr Jr. She then returned to her love, the beauty industry where she worked for decades for Hazel McDonald, Pauline Shipley, Lloyd Keith, and Rosemary Jasperse. During this time she also assisted Laura in her seamstress endeavors she conducted at their home. She continued to “go to work” six days a week at A Touch of Beauty until January of 2011.

She is survived by her “special nephew,” Dr. Dan L. Burns and his spouse, the Rev. Tony Crapolicchio of Avondale Estates. She is also survived by her sisters; Mrs. Louie Thomason and Mrs. Ivan Strain, both of whom continue to live in Dalton. She is also survived by eight nieces and nephews.

Vinnie’s ashes have been interned next to her late sister and brother-in-law, Laura and Cecil Burns in West Hill Cemetery.

A Celebration of Life service will be on Saturday at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Love Funeral Home, which has made all arrangements. Family members will be greeting guests beginning at noon. The Rev. Robert Thomason and the Rev. Tony Crapolicchio will conduct the service.
