Editorial: If you don’t ask, who will?

Many of you probably have a question about what’s happening, or maybe not happening, in Dalton’s public schools. Well, don’t keep it to yourself. The Daily Citizen and the Dalton Board of Education want to hear your questions on a variety of topics, from budgets to sports to curriculum.

The Daily Citizen is hosting a forum with the school board at City Hall on Monday, April 16, following the City Council meeting. The forum is expected to begin at about 6:45 p.m.

We are proud to partner with Dalton Public Schools officials for this event. Board member Rick Fromm plans to answer questions, along with Board Chairman Danny Crutchfield. Participants can submit questions before the meeting at www.daltonnow.com by clicking on the link on the home page and following the instructions. Questions can also be submitted at the forum or at The Daily Citizen office on Thornton Avenue in downtown Dalton.

A Daily Citizen panel will select and organize the questions and pose them to the board members and school administrators. We will also have people at the forum to provide follow-up questions to responses so there is a conversation and not just questions and answers. Our goal is to get the audience members, and thus the community, involved.

We want members of the community to send in questions and show up at the forum. If citizens care about their local government then they need to attend such events. We are too small a community to not have open, honest discussions like this. We will never all agree on how or when or what to do, but we can at least have a positive, honest conversation.

Remember, if you don’t ask your questions you can’t complain that you haven’t been given any answers.
