• Several local students were on the dean’s list for the spring term at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College. They are Courtney S. Bailey and Nathaniel H. Dupree of Dalton and Seth R. Parr of Resaca. Students on the list attained a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and carried at least 12 hours of academic work.

• Armstrong Atlantic State University in Savannah named Mayra Perez from Dalton to the dean’s list for the spring semester. Perez, a senior majoring in political science, earned a GPA of 3.6 or higher for the semester.
• Local residents who graduated from Berry College during spring commencement were Katie Chernicky of Tunnel Hill, bachelor of arts in international studies; Caitlin Freeman of Rocky Face, bachelor of science in exercise science; Hillary Mason of Resaca, bachelor of science in biology; Garrett Pierce of Rocky Face, bachelor of science in exercise science, psychology; Marcus Richardson of Dalton, education specialist degree in educational leadership; Brittni Trollinger of Rocky Face, bachelor of arts in communication-journalism; and Rosalyn Zock of Rocky Face, bachelor of science in anthropology. • Mariela Cruz of Dalton was named to the dean’s list for the spring term at Birmingham-Southern College. The list recognizes students who have been enrolled full time, received a letter grade for each of the courses in which he or she was enrolled, and earned at least a 3.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale.
• Jonathan Musick of Dalton was among Carson-Newman University’s spring graduating class. Musick graduated with a master of business administration degree.
• David Ellis Giammarella of Dalton graduated as a member of The Citadel’s class of 2014 as a member of the S.C. Corps of Cadets. He was named to the dean’s list for spring for a GPA of 3.2 or higher with no grade below a C for the previous semester’s work, with a minimum of 12 semester hours.
• Tyler Mimbs, formerly of Dalton, received the President’s Award at the College of Coastal Georgia in Brunswick. He is a 2010 graduate of Southeast Whitfield High School and the son of the Rev. Gary and Michelle Mimbs of Sandersville. He graduated as valedictorian with a 4.0 GPA, receiving a bachelor of science in early childhood education. He will teach fifth-grade social studies at East Laurens Elementary School in East Dublin.

• Jose Cruz, son of Jose Cruz and Sofia Cruz of Dalton, was on the dean’s list for the spring semester at Furman University. The list is comprised of full-time undergraduate students who earn a GPA of 3.4 or higher on a four-point system.
• Local students who graduated from Georgia Southwestern State University during the spring commencement ceremony were Joanna Garcia of Dalton, who earned a bachelor of business administration in human resource management, and Nicholas Ray of Cohutta, who earned a bachelor of business administration in management.
• Thomas Roberts of Dalton made the spring academic achievement list at Georgia Southwestern State University. To be eligible for the list, a student must previously earn at least 12 credit hours, be enrolled in three to 11 hours of courses and earn a 3.5 or higher GPA.
• Local residents who graduated during Georgia Tech’s 247th commencement exercises were Zachary Amos of Rocky Face, bachelor of science in mechanical engineering; Regis Crowder of Cohutta, bachelor of science in physics; Thatcher Davies of Cohutta, bachelor of science in biomedical engineering; Ahmed Farag of Dalton, bachelor of science in mechanical engineering; Kaitlin Hoyt of Dalton, bachelor of science in biomedical engineering; Audrey Meinders of Dalton, bachelor of science in computer science; Shailee Patel of Dalton, bachelor of science in chemical and biomolecular engineering; Parker Plunkett of Dalton, bachelor of science in business administration; Angelo Spinetta of Dalton, bachelor of science in nuclear and radiological engineering; and Kenny Vargas of Dalton, bachelor of science in industrial engineering.
• Jessica Christina Hornbuckle of Dalton received a master’s degree from the graduate school of Louisiana State University.
• Seven Dalton-area students were members of the 2014 graduating class of the McCallie School in Chattanooga, including the class valedictorian. Dalton-area graduates included Aakash Patel and Bassem Salama of Dalton; Peter Lugthart, John Eric Miller, Rob Smalley and Tucker Snipes of Rocky Face; and Griffin Davis from Tunnel Hill. Lugthart was the valedictorian and will attend Williams College on a National Merit Scholarship. Miller received a Northwestern National Merit Award for Northwestern University. Patel, Salama and Snipes will attend the University of Georgia courtesy of a Georgia Zell Miller Scholarship. Lugthart was awarded the Johnson Spanish Award and the Argonaut Creative Writing Award, Miller was presented the Walker Dramatics Award and Salama earned the McCallie Community Service Award.
• Alicia Daniels, formerly of Dalton, graduated from the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta with a degree in pediatrics. She will begin her residency this summer at Children’s Hospital in New Orleans. She is a highest honor graduate of Northwest Whitfield High School and is the daughter of Dwayne and Connie Daniels of Gainesville and the granddaughter of Bill and Dianne Caylor of Varnell.
• Morgan L. Patton of Dalton was named to the spring dean’s list at Missouri Valley College. The requirements were a 3.3 or higher GPA, at least 12 graded hours for the semester and no “D,” “F” or “Incomplete” grades for the semester.
• The following local residents graduated from Reinhardt University in the spring semester: Ryan Osborn of Cohutta, bachelor of science in political science; Alexa Griffin of Dalton, bachelor of arts in communication arts; and William Reno of Dalton, bachelor of science in middle grades (4-8).
• William Mosley from Dalton was honored for completing his degree at the Southern Arkansas University spring commencement. Mosley was an agriculture business major and graduated from the College of Science and Technology with a bachelor of science degree.
• Rebecca Blevins of Cohutta received a bachelor of science in cell and molecular biology during the spring commencement ceremony of Union University. She was named to the presdent’s list for the spring semester. The list includes full-time students who achieve a 4.0 GPA on a four-point scale.
• Joshua Lewis of Rocky Face received a bachelor of business administration at the commencement ceremonies of the University of Dubuque.
• Karl Ridley of Dalton was named to the spring dean’s honor list at the University of Saint Mary. To be on the list, students had to end the semester with a GPA of 3.5 or better.
• Vikram Srivastava, son of Vinai and Archana Srivastava of Dalton, graduated from the University of Tennessee on May 8 with his doctorate in materials chemistry.
• Several area students made the dean’s list for the spring semester at Valdosta State University. Students who achieve a semester GPA of 3.50 or higher on nine or more semester hours with an institutional GPA of 3.00 or higher are recognized. The area students include Monica Quinn of Resaca, David Bautista of Chatsworth, Brittany Chastain of Chatsworth, Tonya Dial of Chatsworth, Laura Orf of Chatsworth and Austin Fowler of Dalton. Area students who graduated from Valdosta State University in the spring are William Gallman of Dalton and Cynthia Wilson of Dalton.
