Planet Fitness may be opening in Dalton

Dalton could be getting a Planet Fitness.

Crews are currently renovating part of the old Kroger shopping center on West Walnut Avenue behind the Chick-fil-A. Both Whitfield County Building Inspector Greg Williams and a source with the contractor doing the work, who asked not to be identified, said a Planet Fitness would be going in there.

A telephone message left at Planet Fitness corporate headquarters in New Hampshire was not immediately returned.

Planet Fitness is a chain of fitness centers that advertises itself as a “Judgment Free Zone.”

According to its website, planetfitness.com, it has more than 1,000 locations providing cardio and weight-training equipment and other services. It has more than eight million members, and its standard membership fee is $10 a month. The closest Planet Fitness location to Dalton is in Fort Oglethorpe.
