News briefs: Groundbreaking rescheduled, Berry alumni to meet, prekindergarten registration

Humane Society groundbreaking
The groundbreaking for the Humane Society of Northwest Georgia’s new shelter has been rescheduled for Friday at 2 p.m. due to inclement weather. The property for the new shelter is at the corner of Veterans Drive and Legions Drive adjacent to Park Creek School. Additional parking is available across the street at Ace Transportation. The public is invited.

Berry alumni group meeting
The Carpet Capital Chapter of the Berry Alumni Association meets at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 14, at the Emery Center in Dalton. The program will feature a guided tour of the center, highlighting the Willisa Marsh Children’s Room. She was a graduate of Berry College and is memorialized in the center.
Following the tour the group will go to the home of Harlan and Doris Chapman on Covie Drive in Dalton for dessert. All Berry alumni are invited. For more information or to RSVP, contact chapter president Sue Killcreas at (706) 226-6199 or vice president Tim Howard at (706) 695-2740.
Parents may register their children for prekindergarten in Whitfield County Schools at the Mack Gaston Community Center on March 14-15.
Future students must be four years old by Sept. 1, and registration is only accepted at the community center, 214 Fredrick St. Staff in the schools cannot process registration.

Staff will be available at the community center from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, March 14, and from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 15. Parents must bring the following documentation about their child:
• Proof of Immunization (Form No. 3231)
• Eye, Ear and Dental Certificate (Form No. 3300)
• Social Security card
• Birth certificate
• Medicaid/PeachCare card
• Most recent proof of address (lease agreement, power bill or water bill in parent’s name in the service address)
Pre-kindergarten classroom will be available at these elementary schools: Antioch, Beaverdale, Cedar Ridge, Cohutta, Dawnville, Dug Gap, Eastside, Valley Point and Westside.
