Krispy Kreme adding mini doughnuts to permanent menu in new ‘cheat sweet’ campaign

Did you resolve to give up sweets for the New Year? Well, Krispy Kreme has a better idea: Don’t! Instead, the popular doughnut brand is encouraging America to “cheat sweet” on their New Year’s diet plans with their newest permanent menu item — mini versions of the sugary treats they already sell. “Too many people bail on their New Year’s resolutions before they are even halfway through January. That’s no good. Sometimes a mini-indulgence, or cheat, is all you need to help you stick with it,” said Dave Skena, chief marketing officer for Krispy Kreme. “A little Krispy Kreme goes a long way.” — Fox News

Parrot’s chilling ‘Let me out’ cries prompt 911 call, police visit to Florida man’s house

“Let me out! Let me out! Ohhh! Ohhh! Ohhh!” When a Florida neighbor heard those chilling cries, the logical next step was to call 911. Four Palm Beach County Sheriff’s deputies pulled up and confronted a man who had his wife’s car on blocks in his driveway. In a minute, the mystery was solved. The man walked inside and returned with his parrot. A video, posted online, does not identify the individuals involved or reveal the location of the incident, except to say it occurred Dec. 29 in the Lake Worth Beach, Florida, area. In it, the parrot clearly can be heard saying “Let me out” and letting out heart-wrenching groans. — USA Today

These Indiana twins were born just 30 minutes apart, but in different decades

These two newborns might be twins, but they don’t exactly share a birthday — having been born in completely different years and decades. Dawn Gilliam and Jason Tello, of Pendleton, Indiana, rang in the new year in a special way: with one birth before and one birth after the clock struck midnight. The twins — Joslyn and Jaxon Tello — weren’t actually due until Feb. 19. Gilliam went to Ascension St. Vincent Carmel Hospital on New Year’s Eve, concerned about a lack of fetal movement, according to CNN affiliate WBNS. — CNN

Aliens definitely exist and they could be living among us on Earth, says Britain’s first astronaut

Aliens definitely exist, Britain’s first astronaut has said — and it’s possible they’re living among us on Earth but have gone undetected so far. Helen Sharman, who visited the Soviet Mir space station in 1991, told the Observer newspaper on Sunday that “aliens exist, there’s no two ways about it.” “There are so many billions of stars out there in the universe that there must be all sorts of different forms of life,” she went on. “Will they be like you and me, made up of carbon and nitrogen? Maybe not.” Then, in a tantalizing theory that should probably make you very suspicious of your colleagues, Sharman added, “It’s possible they’re here right now and we simply can’t see them.” — CNN
