Gordon County manhunt ends with murder suspect shot

The Gordon County Sheriff’s Office reports that the suspect in a Tuesday murder and arson has been captured.
In a post on Facebook, the sheriff’s office said deputies were called to a report of a shot fired at a house on James Street near Resaca around 7:30 p.m  They arrived to find the house in flames. After firefighters were able to extinguish the flames, they found a body inside the home.
The deputies identified Christopher Lee Dixon, 46, as the suspect. That began a manhunt involving several law enforcement agencies. Dixon was found hiding under a mobile home nearby. He was shot. The sheriff’s office reported he is being treated in a local hospital and is expected to survive.
No other suspects are being sought.
Dixon will face charges of murder and other offenses.
Sheriff Mitch Ralston thanks the Georgia State Patrol (GSP) SWAT team, the GSP Aviation Unit, Fire/Rescue and Whitfield County Sheriff Darren Pierce and his Chief Deputy Todd Thompson, who were both on the scene, and all of the Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office personnel who responded. More information is expected to be made available as the investigation proceeds.
