The Dalton Arts Project will present a free performance of “Peter and the Wolf” on Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Dalton High School theater.
“Peter and the Wolf” is a symphonic fairy tale for children written by Sergei Prokofiev. The narrator tells the story, while the orchestra uses different instruments to represent each character in the story: the bird by a flute, the duck by an oboe, the cat by a clarinet, the grandfather by a bassoon, the wolf by three horns, Peter by the string quartet and the shooting of the hunters by the kettle drums and bass drum.
This 30-minute performance is enjoyed by young and old alike. Choreographer Jo Beth Thompson says the dancers are excited to bring this free performance to the community. The performance will be followed by the Student Choreography Showcase, original dances created by Level 4 and older dancers and performed as a fundraiser for Books for Change USA, which promotes literacy in the community and throughout the world.
