Letter to the Editor: Water problem eliminated

My wife Joanne and I have lived on Miller Street for 45 years. For 45 years we have had a severe water problem. During the winter rains or following a summer storm, our sump pump would run for weeks at a time with a continuous stream of water flowing through our basement.

Over the last week we have had more than five inches of rain. Normally, our sump pump would run for three to four weeks following such a downpour. I am happy to report that our basement is bone dry! This is the direct result of months of work in our community to redirect surface and sub-surface water.

I would like to thank those who identified the problem and suggested a solution. I would like to thank those who accepted and funded the solution. And I would like to thank those who have spent months in unpleasant conditions to implement the solution. Thank you!
