Mr. Harvey Lee Tankersley went home to be with the Lord on Friday, Sept. 16, 2011. He departed this life surrounded by his family and friends at Hamilton Medical Center.  

Harvey was a member of Cool Springs Baptist Church and a founding member of the Murray County Coon Hunters Association. He was retired from Georgia Carpet Finishers as a truck driver.

Harvey began his journey in life 73 years ago.  Born Nov. 10, 1937, in Gilmer County, he is the son of the late Olen and Rosie Tankersley of Murray County. He was also preceded in death by three sisters, Goldie Ruffino of New York, Hazel Fleming of Dalton and Helen Lance of Chatsworth; three brothers-in-law, Homer Pulliam, Grady Pulliam and Emmett Jackson of Chatsworth.

He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Miriam Pulliam Tankersley; one son and daughter-in-law, Joe and Brittany Tankersley of Chatsworth and Hiawassee; precious grandson, Olen, due in November; brothers and sisters-in-law, Bradley and Ezma Tankersley, Howard and Ruth Pulliam, Garner and Joanne Pulliam; sister-in-law, Mattie Sue Jackson, all of Chatsworth;  sisters and brother–in-law,  Inez Miller of Rossville, Modena Stafford of Rome, and Sue and Parson Stone Jr.; brother-in-law, Hoyt Lance, all of Chatsworth; nieces, nephews, and many other family and life-long friends.

Funeral services to celebrate the life of Harvey will be today at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Peeples Funeral Home with the Rev. Lamar Beason, the Rev. Mike Gibson and the Rev. Jeff Johnson officiating. Interment will follow in the Mount Hermon Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home today until the funeral hour.
