The Appalachian Regional Commission has awarded Whitfield County a $1 million grant to help the county develop its Carbondale Business Park.

“These funds will help us develop our new business park,” County Commission Chairman Mike Babb said in a statement released Saturday. “This means $1 million that won’t have to come out of our local budget now. We appreciate being chosen for this award because we believe our economic development plans will pay dividends for local workers in the future.”

Elyse Cochran, director of economic development, Dalton-Whitfield County Joint Development Authority/Greater Dalton, congratulated the Whitfield County Board of Commissioners on receiving this grant to help fund the infrastructure development needs at the Carbondale Business Park.

The grant will help pay developing the business park’s road access.
