Mr. Johnny Lee Hayes, 39, of the Mill Creek Community in Walker County, departed this life Wednesday morning, May 18, 2011, at the home surrounded by his loving family. Johnny was born March 25, 1972, in Dalton, a son of the late Edgar Lee and Hazel Marie Brackett Hayes. He was also preceded in death by his father-in-law, Johnny C. Davis, and a brother, Leroy “Buddy” Hayes. Johnny was a 1992 graduate of Southeast High School and worked at Shaw Industries Plant W-E in Chatsworth for the past 18 years.
Johnny loved to watch wrestling and ride his lawn mower, but more than anything he loved his children and the last thing he told his family was for them “to take care of my kids and make sure they stayed in school.”
He is survived by his wife of 13 years, Christie Davis Hayes; his 4-year-old daughter, Kirsten LaShae Hayes, and his 10-year-old son, Tyler William Hayes; great aunt, Ollie Anderson; brothers and sisters-in-law, Roy and Sandra Hayes, Ranger, Tommy and Birtie Hayes, Murray County, Charlie and Kim Bailey, Dalton, Frankie Harris; sisters and brothers-in-law, Ollie and Cecil Weaver, Louise Ball and the late Ed Ball, Jewell McBrayer, Shirley and Charles Skidmore, Jane and James Land, Tina and Daniel Randolph and Emily and Fred McCullough Jr.
Johnny, we love you and will always miss you deeply.
Services to celebrate the life of Mr. Johnny Lee Hayes will be Friday at 2 p.m. at the Melrose Chapel of Ponders Funeral Home with the Rev. Tony Southern officiating. He will be laid to rest at the Lonely Dove Cemetery with Nicky Muse, David McCurry, Daniel Randolph, Andrew Muse, Richard Smith and James Land serving as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday from 5 to 9 p.m. and after 9 a.m. Friday.
