Joseph Hoyt Hammontree

Mr. Joseph Hoyt Hammontree, 90, of Dalton, went home to be with his Lord on Thursday, Oct. 25, 2012.

Mr. Hammontree was a founding member and deacon of Grace Baptist Church where he directed the choir for 35 years. He also served in the United States Army during World War II.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lester Truman and Lola Hammontree; brother, Roy Hammontree; and sisters, Etta Rich and Wilene Huey.

Survivors include his loving wife of nearly 67 years, Jean Evelyn Hammontree of Dalton; son and daughter-in-law, Eddie and O’Keema Hammontree of Chatsworth; daughters and sons-in-law, Jean and Johnson Todd of Chatsworth and Penny and Marc Carpenter of Crandall; brother and sister-in-law, Parham and Jean Hammontree of Calhoun; grandchildren, David and Amanda Todd, Edward and Angie Todd, and Emily and Jason Teasley; great-grandchildren, Breanna, Eli and Luke Todd, Jenny and Jason Todd, Staci and Joe Langham, and Brayden and Christy Teasley; great-great-grandchild, Ama Langham; nieces, nephews and cousins.

Services for Mr. Joseph Hoyt Hammontree will be at 2 p.m. on Sunday in the chapel of Peeples Funeral Home. Interment will be in Grace Baptist Church Cemetery.

Family members will be received at the funeral home after 4:30 p.m. today and friends will be welcome from 5 to 9 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mr. Hammontree may be mailed to Grace Baptist Church, Attention: Grady Patterson, 345 Rob Brooks Road, Crandall, GA 30711.

Peeples Funeral Home and Crematory of Chatsworth is in charge of arrangements.
