Regional library director to retire

The city of Dalton is set to make its first major purchases from the Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) voters approved in March.

The council meets Tuesday at 6 p.m. at City Hall, and council members will vote on the purchase of two pumper trucks from Sutphen Corp. of Ohio for $1.3 million.

The four-year, 1 percent SPLOST is expected to collect $63.6 million. The Dalton Building Authority issued $27 million in bonds in July to fund “Priority 1” projects, including the two pumper trucks as well as an emergency radio communications system for local first responders.

The council is also set to vote on a $179,764 contract with Miracle Recreation Equipment of Missouri for a new handicapped-accessible playground at Al Rollins Park.

The old wooden playground at the park had deteriorated and was torn down in March.
