THOMASVILLE — A day of unity is set for Thursday.

National Day of Prayer, the first Thursday of May each year, will be May 4 at noon, at Disciples of Jesus Ministries Church, 228 Augusta Ave.

Community Transformation, Inc. President Doug Silvis said there will be eight different prayer topics.

Topics for prayer include government, military and law enforcement, education and family, among others.

For each prayer, public officials and others related to each prayer topic will stand.

“This isn’t just a spectator thing,” Silvis said, noting the audience also will be able to participate in each of the eight different prayers.

The Thursday event marks the 26th National Day of Prayer for Thomasville and Thomas County and also marks the 66th annual Day of Prayer for the nation.

The day of prayer and unity was created in 1952 by a joint resolution of Congress and signed into law by President Harry S. Truman, according to www.nationaldayofprayer.org.
