• State Sen. Chuck Payne, R-Dalton, and state Rep. Jason Ridley, R-Chatsworth, speak to the League of Women Voters at 6 p.m. at Logan’s Roadhouse. Reports will be made about issues coming before the legislature in January. Everyone is invited, no reservations are required.

• The Housing Authority of the City of Dalton Board of Commissioners meets from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Housing Authority board room at 405 Sequoyah Place.

• A Beginner ESOL (English for speakers of other languages) course is at 4 p.m. at the Dalton-Whitfield County Public Library. Interested in becoming a student of the English language? • The Board of Trustees of the Northwest Georgia Regional Library System, serving Gordon, Murray and Whitfield counties, holds a collective quarterly meeting at 4 p.m. at the Dalton-Whitfield County Public Library, 310 Cappes St. in Dalton. This meeting is open to the public. This regularly scheduled meeting of the board will consider agenda items and actions and review proposed amendments and/or updates to the constitution and bylaws of the public library. Proposed changes to the constitution and bylaws must be presented to the library board for review at least two weeks prior to the meeting date. The notice must also be presented in the public news organ prior to the open meeting.

• Learn at the Library Cricut: Holiday Ornament is at 4:30 p.m. at the Dalton-Whitfield County Public Library. Create a glitter ornament with the Cricut. A fun decoration for your home or tree. All supplies provided. Ages 19-plus.

• The Creative Arts Guild at 520 W. Waugh St. in Dalton hosts another Thirsty Thursday art workshop with Paula Plott Gregg from 5:45 to 7:45 p.m. Participants will complete art projects ranging from jewelry making to painting to creating seasonal decor and more. Supplies are included in the price of the class. Participants are welcome to bring their own adult beverages or purchase beverages through the Guild. • Dalton State College presents “The Red Velvet Cake War,” a Southern comedy, in the Goodroe Auditorium, opening Friday, Nov. 10, at 7:30 p.m. The production will run Nov. 10, 11, 16, 17 and 18 at 7:30 nightly and on Sunday, Nov. 12, at 2 p.m. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the door. • The Creative Arts Guild at 520 W. Waugh St. in Dalton hosts a workshop titled “Expressive Painting in Acrylics with Bradley Wilson” from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., part of a series. Participants practice the methods of expressive acrylic painting while exploring a variety of subject matter and receiving instructor feedback on their work. This class is especially geared toward those with some acrylic painting experience (sorry, not suitable for beginners). Approaching painting as play will be emphasized while focusing on solid technique and other important skills. Participants will be given “monthly challenges” for painting projects to work on at home and bring in for critique. Participants provide their own materials; please see the Guild’s registration portal for material suggestions. This is offered as one workshop per month; you must register for each workshop you would like to attend. The cost is $40 per workshop. • The Whitfield County Community Remembrance Project is partnering with the Equal Justice Initiative for a new student essay contest. Submissions for the 2023 Racial Justice Essay contest will be accepted through Dec. 1. • The Dalton Lions Club holds its annual $10,000 Giveaway/Steak Dinner at the North Georgia Fairgrounds. Tickets are $100 each, which entitles the holder to a steak dinner for two with all the trimmings catered by Outback Steakhouse of Dalton. The meal will be served between 5 and 6 p.m. and the drawing will begin at 6. The drawing is a “reverse draw down” and the final ticket drawn wins the grand prize of $10,000. There will be other cash prizes and numerous other door prizes awarded throughout the evening. You do not have to be present to win the grand prize. • The Murray County High School Alumni Association has named six inductees for its Hall of Fame for 2023. They are Jacob Bean, Steven Durocher, Shannon Henry, Barbie Kendrick, Bruce Kendrick and Fred Welch. This year’s ceremony will be at 2 p.m. at the V.C. Pickering Administrative Center, known to many as the “Old Rock Building,” on Green Road in Chatsworth. Refreshments will be served.

Each workshop will begin at 9 a.m. and last until 2:30 p.m. with a 30-minute lunch. Sack lunches will be available for $7, or participants may bring a lunch.
