Master Jonathan Gabriel Garcia, age 17 months, of Dalton, departed this life Wednesday evening, June 7, 2006 at the T.C. Thompson Children’s Hospital in Chattanooga.
Little Jon-Jon was born January 6, 2005 in Dalton.
He is survived by his parents, Jessie M. and Maria Rubalcava Garcia; brothers, Julian and Salvador Garcia, all of the home; grandparents Luciano and Ana Rubalcava and Jose and Virginia Garcia, all of Bakersfield, Calif.; god-parents Secondino and Monica Alvarez-Fernandez; babysitter Regina Barrientos, all of Dalton; aunts and uncles, Cynthia Rubalcava and Josh Webb, Luciano Rubalcava III, Daniel Rubalcava, Joshua Rubalcava, Jennifer Rubalcava, Julie Rubalcava and Ernesto Martinez, Rosa Garcia, Jose Garcia Jr. and Christy Garcia; several cousins and other relatives.
Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Tuesday at noon at Saint Joseph’s Catholic Church with Father Jesus David Trujillo officiating. Interment will follow in the Whitfield Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the Melrose Chapel of Ponders Funeral Home from 6 until 9 p.m. Monday. The rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. The family will also receive friends at their home on Tuesday after 3:30 p.m. at 1208 Foster St. in Dalton.

Rev. Floyd Jason Flood
The Rev. Floyd Jason Flood, 71, of Resaca, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Monday morning, June 5, 2006, at Gordon Hospital surrounded by his loving family.
Floyd was born April 21, 1935, in Murray County, son of the late John Harrison Sr. and Lemmer Wilson Flood. He was preceded in death by the mother of his children, Nellie Claudine Flood; sister, Edna Parks; and brothers, John Harrison Flood Jr., Wallace Flood and the Rev. Gerald Flood.
Floyd proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. He was the pastor of several churches in the Whitfield County area which included Ray’s Chapel, Riverbend Baptist Church and Holy Hills Baptist Church. He also owned and operated Flood’s Restaurant in Dalton for many years. He was a member of Victory Baptist Church.
He is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Pat Hope of Resaca, Marion and Roger Parker of Calhoun and Cindy and Terry Roberts of Chatsworth; brothers and sisters-in-law, Ray and Virginia Flood, D.L. and Betty Flood and Mack and Terella Flood, all of Dalton and Joyce Flood of Cohutta; brother-in-law, John Parks of Dalton; grandchildren, Melissa and Casey Chapman, Angela and Michael Worley, Brian and Meredith Roberts, Serena Young and Joshua Roberts; great-grandchildren, Christopher Talley, Hunter Chapman, Dawson Worley, Katie Worley and Trenton Young; several nieces and nephews.
Services are Sunday at 2 p.m. at Victory Baptist Church with the Rev. Jeff Painter and the Rev. David Flood officiating.
Burial will be in the West Hill Cemetery.
Robert Johnson, Adam Stover, Johnny Stover, Ray Flood Jr., Roger Flood, Charles Mack Flood Jr. and Jerry Flood will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home after 6 p.m. today.

Leon Douglas Combs
Leon Douglas Combs went home with the Lord Thursday, June 8, 2006.
Born Jan. 3, 1933 in Hamilton County to Elisha and Sarah Fairbanks Combs, he has ministered through song and testimony in the Baptist faith for 33 years in many churches in the local area. He was saved at Gethsemane Baptist Church in Dalton and worked at Shaw Plant 20 for around 30 years. He was loved by anyone who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elisha and Sarah Fairbanks Combs; brother, Lewis Combs of Ohio; stepmother, Ruby Combs; grandchildren, Michael and Michelle Combs.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce Combs for 20 years of a loving marriage; son, Terry Combs of Cleveland, Tenn.; daughters and sons-in-law, Lee and Kenneth Owens of Chatsworth and Sarah and Steve Sharp of Dalton; four special stepdaughters and sons-in-law who loved him as a dad, Pam Grady of Crandall, Teresa and Steve Gibbs, Michelle and Randy Parton of Cleveland and Kristie and Rich Digby of North Lincolnshire, England; grandchildren, Kevin Combs, Steven and Josh Vickery of Cleveland, Kelly Stocks of Crandall, Stevie and Sawyer Sharp and Willow Louise Digby, an unborn sister in England; sisters, Billie Ruth Sherlin of Cleveland and Louise Johnson of Chattanooga; brothers, Bobby Combs of Chattanooga and Kenneth Combs of Soddy Daisy, Tenn.; several loving brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.

Services are Sunday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Peeples Funeral Home with the Revs. Sam Henderson, Charles Rogers, Tommy Southerland and Winfrey Boyd officiating.
Burial will be in the Boanerges Cemetery in Polk County.

Mrs. Maebelle Berry Whitener
Mrs. Maebelle Berry Whitener, 75, of Dalton, died Thursday, June 8, 2006 at Hamilton Medical Center.
Maebelle was a lifelong member of First Presbyterian Church.
She is survived by her husband, Charles G. Whitener Sr. of Dalton; daughter and son-in-law, Martha and Larry Thomason of Dalton; sons and daughters-in-law, Charles G. Whitener Jr. and Jennifer of Lookout Mountain and Gordon and Susie Whitener of Knoxville, Tenn.; grandchildren, Brett Thomason and Chas Thomason, both of Dalton; Charles G. Whitener III and Katharine Rose Whitener, both of Lookout Mountain; Macy Whitener of Oklahoma City; and James Richardson, John Richardson, Margaret Berry Whitener and Molly Mae Whitener, all of Knoxville; sister and brother-in-law, Caroline and Ray Whitlow of Rome; nieces and nephews.
Services are today at 11 a.m. at Dalton First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Tyler Downing officiating.
Burial will be in West Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Boyd C. Hawkins Jr., 60, of Chatsworth, passed away Thursday, June 8, 2006, at Murray Medical Center.
He was preceded in death by his father, Boyd Hawkins Sr., and a brother, Kenneth Hawkins.
Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Jonathan and Jennifer Hawkins of Chatsworth; his former wife, Janelle Walls of Chatsworth; sisters, Carolyn Shoemaker, Kay Osborne, Nancy Clarke and Teresa Vineyard, all of Chatsworth; brothers, Gary Hawkins and Willard Hawkins of Chatsworth; mother, Edith Hawkins of Chatsworth; nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be Sunday at 4 p.m. in the chapel of Peeples Funeral Home with the Rev. William Silvers officiating. Interment will follow in the Smyrna Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home today after 4 p.m. until the funeral hour on Sunday.
