Today's Forum for Aug. 6

“I want to thank the nice young lady who paid for my breakfast at Bojangles’ in Chatsworth Thursday morning. That was special. It made my day. Thank you so much.”

“Telling people that college is nothing but liberal indoctrination is dangerously stupid. Do we want Dalton to stay on every ‘least educated places’ list?”

“Do the Republicans really believe that Trump has surrounded himself with liars, cheaters and fraudulent people and he is completely clean? You would have to be naive or just don’t care and would sell your soul to the devil for material gain.”

“I’d encourage each of you to vote in favor of the upcoming SPLOST. These projects will help make sure our city and county continues its positive momentum.”

“You may not agree with every project on the SPLOST list. I don’t. But there are several projects that would benefit the residents of Whitfield County, particularly the recreation facility in the south end. This would be a huge deal for those who live and work there.”

“I appreciate the SPLOST commenter about putting granny on public/private assistance because she can’t afford the additional taxes. Now that is true compassion for your fellow man, almost as much as our commissioners have. Let them eat cake, I say!”

“Payless Shoes is closing and Kay’s Jewelers is moving out of the mall. Sears and Penney’s, gone. We have three Walmarts, lots of dollar stores and discount clothing stores. Fast food on every corner. The wealth in Dalton is concentrated in older people’s bank accounts. Did the chamber of commerce board consider these facts before supporting a six-year, $100 million sales tax?”

“Since the chamber is willing to have taxpayers spend a million dollars quieting train whistles, wonder if they would support getting rid of those noisy church bells that disturb downtown at midday.”

“I would normally agree that a SPLOST is a good thing, but this proposed one that we are soon voting on is an exorbitant wish list of nonessential luxuries. I would totally support a SPLOST that might include funding improving our roads, improving overall city appearance and funding additional police and firemen to make our community safe and free of the huge influx of homeless people in Dalton. Oh, and I don’t appreciate the threat of the city increasing my already ridiculously high property taxes if this SPLOST doesn’t pass.”

“I know you won’t print this, as you seem to be pro-private, but I want to say that Kyle Wingfield’s column in Monday’s paper was pure trash. How anyone could think that siphoning funds off the public school monies would not hurt them? Simply put, he wants to take from the poor children who attend public schools (we have public schools to educate the masses, the populace) and give it to the rich in terms of a tax credit. If you think that’s smart, I feel sorry for you.”

“I am amazed at what a different viewpoint can do. You saw Sunday’s ‘Dilbert’ cartoon as being about Trump supporters. I saw it as being the fantasy of the Mueller investigation.”

“Ironically, the RINOs are turning out to be Trump supporters. True Republicans believe in small government, not spending more than you bring in, opposing dictatorial regimes and strong moral values. These Trumpites are about as far from being true Republicans as one can be. It is sad to see what has happened to the party.”
