Tift golf teams qualify for state

TIFTON, Ga. — It will be another double state golf tournament appearance for Tift County. The boys and girls teams of TCHS will both be playing in the state championships later this month after playing well at area Monday.

Tift County’s Blue Devils were third at area, according to the Georgia High School Association, with the Lady Devils finishing second. More importantly for Tift’s girls, they shot 279 as a team, well under the barrier of 300.

Kaysie Harrelson was low medalist of the tournament, which was played at Monroe Golf and Country Club. Harrelson shot a 75, five shots better than Lowndes’ Payton Elkins.

Tift’s counting scores were from Harrelson, Caelan Collins (95) and Callie West (109). Gracie Brumfield finished at 113. The Lady Devils were 10 shots behind Colquitt County, which was led by an 84 from Elizabeth Funderburk and had all four golfers shoot under 100.

The Blue Devils finished at 321. Camden County won the tournament at 311, with Lowndes one stroke back at 312.

Wilkes Webb had Tift’s lowest score at 75. Jacob Beach at 81, Tate Greer (81) and Brady Walker (84) also counted towards the Devils’ total. It was also a good day of golf for Ryan Moore (88) and Jake Hasty (89).

Of the six boys and girls teams qualifying for state at the area tournament, five were from South Georgia: boys from Camden, Lowndes and Tift and girls from Colquitt and Tift. Grayson’s boys were the only northern team to advance.
