Nude photos may be evidence of crime in Nashville mayor’s affair

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) says it has obtained nude photos of a woman taken on the phone of former Nashville police Sgt. Rob Forrest, evidence investigators believe shows Mayor Megan Barry engaged in an affair with her former bodyguard while he was on duty. According to an affidavit, the photos were taken during a trip Barry took to Washington, D.C., in which she was accompanied by Forrest who was on the clock. The TBI obtained a search warrant and took possession of Barry’s phone, but the mayor and her attorney have refused to share the pass code to unlock it. — The Tennessean

California town to remove statue of President William McKinley

A bronze statue of President William McKinley has held court over the town square of Arcata, Calif., for more than a century. But it will soon come down. The City Council has voted to remove it. Opponents of the statue point to the annexation of Hawaii and the opening of Indians lands in Oklahoma to white settlement, which took place during McKinley’s presidency. — sfgate

Japan maintains tough stance on refugees, only 20 accepted in 2017

Japan received a record 19,628 asylum applications in 2017, but only 20 were successful, according to preliminary figures released by the Justice Ministry. The ministry defended the outcome of the last year’s asylum application screening, saying it was conducted in accordance with the U.N. Refugee Convention, which went into force in 1954. — The Asahi Shimbun

‘Dreamer’ arrested for threatening school shooting

Rochester, N.Y., police have charged Abigail Hernandez with felony terroristic threats after allegedly posting that she was coming to to shoot people at East High School on the school’s Facebook page. Hernandez is is a “dreamer” who was brought to the United States from Mexico as a child and granted deferred action from deportation by former President Barack Obama in 2012 under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. — Rochester Democrat and Chronicle

Man busted for DUI after riding his horse on a California freeway

Authorities say a man accused of riding a horse on a freeway in Southern California was arrested for driving under the influence. The California Highway Patrol says Luis Perez had a blood-alcohol level of more than double the legal limit when they allege he took his horse on the 91 Freeway. — CBS Los Angeles
