Senior White House official out after allegations of abuse

A senior White House official announced Wednesday he is resigning after allegations by his two ex-wives of physical and emotional abuse. The official, Rob Porter, served as the staff secretary and often controlled the paper flow to President Trump’s desk, along with his daily schedule. Porter also oversaw the White House’s policy implementation process and worked closely with Chief of Staff John F. Kelly to try to instill discipline in the chaotic West Wing. He spent hours of the day with Trump and frequently traveled with him on Air Force One. — The Washington Post 

British model Chloe Ayling suffered physical violence, ‘brutally transported in luggage,’ police testify

A British model, said to have been kidnapped last summer in Milan, Italy, suffered physical violence, including being drugged, handcuffed and “brutally transported in luggage,” investigators testified Wednesday. The remarks were part of opening testimony in the trial of Lukasz Pawel Herba, a 30-year-old Pole arrested in July on charges of kidnapping model Chloe Ayling for ransom, Italian news agency ANSA reported. — Fox News

Country running out of space for its millionaires

Imagine a pint-sized country — less than a square mile in size — with sun-drenched, quiet streets, no dog poo and no income tax to pay. A place where motor racing and yachting are the national pastimes and people hop into a helicopter to get from A to B instead of hailing a taxi.  Now imagine that one in three of the people who live there are millionaires — often many times over. This little oasis has, in fact, become such a magnet for millionaires that many more want to relocate to its sunny shores. Oil world turns upside down as U.S. sells oil in Middle East

The United Arab Emirates, a model Persian Gulf petro-state where endless billions from crude exports feed a giant sovereign wealth fund, isn’t the most obvious customer for Texan oil. Yet, in a trade that illustrates how the rise of the American shale industry is upending energy markets across the globe, the U.A.E. bought oil directly from the U.S. in December, according to data from the federal government. A tanker sailed from Houston and arrived in the Persian Gulf last month. — Bloomberg 

Dog meat trade kept under wraps

These are the images South Korean Olympics organizers do not want you to see — dogs being slaughtered and sold for food just 70 miles from where the Games begin on Friday. Dogs and even puppies are sold openly for food in Moran market, Seongnam, the country’s largest open-air dog market — contradicting claims made last year by local authorities that it was closing. — Daily Mail
