Library offers prizes to new card holders
MOULTRIE, Ga. — A library card is almost magical. It can take you to wonderful places, introduce you to interesting people from throughout history and spark your imagination. For two lucky people this month, it could even make you a winner. In celebration of Library Card Sign-Up Month, the Moultrie-Colquitt County Library is offering prizes to one adult and one person under the age of 17, chosen at random from among all those who get a new library card between Sept. 1 and 5:30 p.m. Sept. 30. The drawing will be held Monday, Oct. 3.
Tiftarea communities among recipients of state development awards

TIFTON, Ga. – The cities of Tifton and Ty Ty, as well as Tift County, were listed among 74 Georgia communities set to receive a total of $37.7 million in federal assistance to enhance local economies. The awards were announced Wednesday by the office of Gov. Nathan Deal. The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) awarded the funding to Georgia’s Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program, administered by the Department of Community Affairs (DCA). Both Tifton and Tift County will receive $500,000. Tift County’s funds will be earmarked for drainage and streets improvements, while Tifton’s will be for drainage improvements. Ty Ty will also receive $500,000, to be used for water and sewer improvements. In addition, Ben Hill County is set to receive $500,000 for drainage and street improvements; Berrien County, $228,858 for drainage and street improvements; and the city of Nashville, $500,000 for multi-infrastructure improvements.

Cultures showcased at Wild Adventures
VALDOSTA, Ga. – Culture comes to life Saturday at Wild Adventures as the theme park hosts its Fourth Annual La Fiesta. “It’s a way we can explore and experience Hispanic and Latin cultures,” said Wild Adventures Public Relations Manager Laurie Windham. As guests enter the park between 10-11 a.m., they will be able to hear the Latin American music of Ixlar Musical. Traditional music and dancing can be found throughout the park including a DJ providing music from noon to 6 p.m. The Lowndes High Spanish Honor Society will host a craft station, allowing children to make a unique gift from 1-3 p.m. Adults will be able to pick up free salsa lessons while kids can take a swing at pinatas. Authentic food will be for sale and includes pupusas, tamales and steak and chicken tacos. The event is free with park admission or season pass. More information: Visit wildadventures.com.
