Trump’s win spurs concerns that ad agencies are out of touch with consumers

Donald Trump’s unexpected win in the recent presidential election has major advertising agencies concerned they are out of touch with middle America. Agencies say they are rethinking how they do business, including their hiring practices. “A diversity hire can be a farm girl from Indiana as much as a Cuban immigrant who lives in Pensacola,’ said John Boiler, chief executive of the agency 72andSunny, whose clients include General Mills Inc. and Coors Light. The agency plans to expand its university recruitment programs to include rural areas. — The Wall Street Journal
Good Friday and Columbus Day not inclusive enough, say Bloomington officials
Officials in Bloomington, Ind., have renamed Good Friday and Columbus Day “Spring Holiday” and “Fall Holiday” to be more “inclusive.” Mayor John Hamilton said the move would “better reflect cultural sensitivity in the workplace.” Bloomington is a traditionally liberal city. Its county gave Hillary Clinton 58.6 percent in the recent presidential election. — BBC
Transgender cop’s uniform keeps her out of event she organized
San Diego, Calif.’s first transgender police officer was kept out of an event at the San Diego LGBT Community Center because she was wearing her uniform. Officer Christine Garcia helped plan the event and was part of the police department security detail that watched over a commemorative march down University Avenue. But after the march, when Garcia tried to enter the event as a member of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer community, she was asked to leave because her police uniform could upset others in attendance. — The San Diego Union-Tribune
Florida woman accused of shooting at house guests who stayed too long

Alana Annette Savell was arrested on a charge of aggravated battery with a firearm, Bay County Sheriff’s Office officials said. A woman told authorities that she had gone to Savell’s home with a friend. Savell said they started drinking and were getting too loud, and said she didn’t want them in her home. Savell armed herself with a handgun and started shooting at their feet from the doorway of the home, officials said. — NBC Miami
