School board purchases 47 acres

The Hamilton County School Board voted to purchase 47 acres to help in the building of the new Hamilton County Elementary School.

JASPER, Fla. – The Hamilton County School Board voted to purchase land behind the Hamilton County High School at a meeting on Monday, May 8.

The property is slightly less than 47 acres and will cost the board $133,950.

According to superintendent Tom Moffses, the purpose for purchasing the land is to utilize theĀ  the dirt on the land for the new Hamilton County Elementary School and save the district money.

According to Billy Rutherford of Clemons, Rutherford and Associates, who is in charge of the architecture of the new school, the purchase of the land will save the district approximately $300,000 by not having to purchase dirt or pay for transportation for the dirt.
