Whitfield County officials are already beginning planning for the county’s July 4, 2026, celebration. Officials are putting together a citizens committee to help plan the observance of America’s semiquincentennial.

“We know 2026 seems like a long way out,” said Board of Commissioners Chairman Jevin Jensen. “But if you are trying to book a venue or trying to do something 11 months out, next July 4, most of them are already booked. Our trade center, our different theaters and parks and things like that are typically booked a summer in advance.”

Jensen said county officials want to form the committee this fall and finalize plans by next spring.

“Part of that is fundraising,” he said. “Things like this are not typically funded by taxpayers. Hopefully, we will get some citizens and companies to donate to whatever this committee comes up with.”
