Published 11:23 pm Monday, May 12, 2008

Members of the Dalton Police Department and the Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office will be participating in the 2008 Law Enforcement Torch Run to benefit Special Olympics Georgia today. The run will begin at the old jail at 501 W. Waugh St. at 8:30 a.m. The total course will be nine miles, ending at the Gordon County line.

The Torch Run is an awareness and fundraising event with all proceeds going to Special Olympics Georgia. Along with the Torch Run, the Dalton Police Department has raised money for the Special Olympics through corporate and private donations, T-shirt sales and the raffling off of a treadmill that was donated by Wal-Mart. The treadmill will be raffled after the Torch Run. If anyone is interested in making a corporate or private donation to Special Olympics Georgia, you may do so at the Dalton Police Department during regular business hours. In addition, donations may be received at www.firstgiving.com/daltonpd.
