Citizens of the Week: Cope Brothers Construction workers

As the song says, the American flag is a “grand old flag.”

But too often, Americans don’t give it the respect it deserves. We’ve all seen flags that have been left flying until they are tattered or ones that are hung so that they touch the ground or some object. The people who do this usually don’t mean any disrespect. They just don’t know better.

But the people who work for Dalton’s Cope Brothers Construction clearly know how to treat a flag.

Cope Brothers is currently renovating the old post office on Hamilton Street, which is owned by the city of Dalton. Walter Carter was doing an environmental inspection of the old post office on Hamilton Street recently while they worked.

“They didn’t know anyone was watching them. But I was, and I saw them when they found an old flag that someone had left behind,” Carter said. “They stopped everything they were doing. They folded that flag into a triangle with the stars showing just like you learn in the Boy Scouts, and then they removed it before they went back to work.”

“It does me good to know that we still have people in this community who will take the time to do something like that,” Carter said.

We agree. That’s why we name the workers at Cope Brothers Construction Citizens of the Week.
