The Jonas Foundation, created in the memory of Oscar Jonas, brings exciting art experiences to local children through its Artists Residency Program. This fall semester Dalton city, Murray County, Whitfield County, NorthStar, Crossroads Academy and the Elbert Shaw Regional Youth Detention Center students will be exposed to a wide array of artists and disciplines.
Musicians will include world-renowned gospel group D’Vine, instrumental trio Sapien, storytelling through music with Wendy Bennett and Latin American music by Tahino. Students will enjoy lively dance performances by tap duo Tip-Tap-Two.
Theatre and Literary Arts performances by the Piccadilly Puppet Theatre, storyteller Cathy Kaemmerien and Cuban folklore author Carmen Deedy will inspire young readers. The visual arts components of the program include in-class instruction by Brad Wilson on egg tempura painting at the high school level and Maggie Estes on illustration at area elementary, middle, and high schools.
