Letter: Justice system should treat all equally

I am a black male charged and convicted of drug possession-cocaine, less than one gram, while on probation. I was sentenced to five years to serve. Prior to my sentence, after being in the Whitfield County Jail for more than 90 days, I was granted a $60,000 bond.

A second suspect, a white male named Bryan Dennington, was charged with murder and aggravated battery and given a $50,000 bond.
According to The Daily Citizen, a man lost his life over a cell phone. Although it is illegal to possess drugs, it is also illegal to kill someone.
In my opinion, the justice system in Whitfield County is justly unfair to blacks. Black offenders seem to receive lengthy incarceration time for lesser, non-violent crimes, while white offenders receive less incarceration time for violent crimes and non-violent crimes.
Justice should be served based on the crime that is committed and not be judged by the color of our skin.
