This year’s event is scheduled for Sunday from 12:30 to 7 p.m. at the church at 1775 Haig Mill Lake Road off the North Bypass. The entire community and all ages are invited to this family-friendly and alcohol-free event. Admittance is free, and tickets will be available for sale at the event which can be used for games and activities such as a cake walk and the ever-popular dunking booth.
Throughout the day, dancers, musicians and singers will entertain. Octoberfiesta fare ranges from traditional fall festival favorites such as bratwurst, hamburgers, hot dogs and funnel cakes to tacos, tamales and other Hispanic-inspired offerings. A variety of beverages will be available for purchase.
Octoberfiesta was started eight years ago by St. Joseph’s. It was intended to be a parish-wide celebration blending its parishioners’ diverse cultures and generations. It has grown throughout the years into a community celebration offering visitor tours of the church and its parishioners talents.
Octoberfiesta is sponsored by St. Joseph’s Knights of Columbus chapter, a Catholic men’s fraternal and charitable organization founded in 1882. There are more than 1.8 million members throughout the world and during the past decade the Knights of Columbus has donated more than $1.3 billion to charity and provided nearly 640 million hours of volunteer service in support of charitable initiatives.
Funds raised through Octoberfiesta go to back charitable causes at St. Joseph’s and throughout the community and to the Women’s Enrichment Center, a crisis pregnancy center in Dalton.
