Regional library director to retire

J.C. “Bud” Shaw, who with his brother Robert E. “Bob” Shaw co-founded floorcovering manufacturer Shaw Industries, passed away Friday.

He was 85.

The Shaw brothers helped transform Dalton-based Shaw Industries from a small carpet company in the 1960s to a multi-billion dollar floorcovering powerhouse it is today.

Shaw Industries’ beginnings are traced to Clarence Shaw, the father of Bud and Bob Shaw, who owned Star Dye Co. The brothers expanded their father’s business by forming Star Finishing Co., then later carpet companies that would become Shaw Industries in 1970.

The company grew to become the world’s largest producer of broadloom carpet.
