William Haynes Masters

Mr. William Haynes Masters, 80, of Dalton died Thursday, June 1, 2006.

He was born in Albertville, Ala., in 1926, son of the late James and Edna Masters and was preceded in death by his sister, Carolyn Masters; an infant daughter; mother and father-in-law, Floried and J.R. Proffitt and brother-in-law, Jack Proffitt.

Haynes attended Georgia Tech before entering the Navy in World War II and graduated from Auburn University in 1948. After moving to Dalton 57 years ago, he was employed by the American Thread Mill and Cabin Crafts before joining Proffitt Manufacturing Co. as a partner in the family business.

He was a member and deacon of First Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Sara Ann Proffitt Masters of Dalton; daughters and son-in-law, Nancy Masters-Lester of Dalton, Sally and Mike Yarbrough of Berwyn, Pa.; grandsons, Joshua Lester of Dalton and William Yarbrough of Berwyn; brother, Robert Masters of Rome; nieces, Karen Masters and Carol Masters of Rome and Kathy Glisson of Athens; sister-in-law, Joyce Proffitt of Dalton; nephews, Rocki Proffitt and his wife Margaret of Little Rock, Ark., and Terry Proffitt and his wife Sally of Forsyth; great-nieces, Brooks Radighieri and Meagan Berry; great-nephews, Harrison Proffitt and Candler Proffitt.

Graveside services are Sunday at 2 p.m. at West Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Bill Wilson and the Rev. Phillip Cannon officiating.

The family will receive friends at Love Funeral Home today from 6 to 8 p.m.
