SAVANNAH — A man wanted in the destruction of one of Savannah’s picturesque squares with a car a month ago has been arrested on multiple charges, police said Tuesday.
Leon Rondell Kaymore, 33, was jailed after being arrested Monday at nearby Tybee Island, accused of giving police there false information.
Savannah-Chatham County police had been looking for Kaymore since June 5, when he allegedly tried to run over a police officer before plowing into Chatham Square, causing extensive damage to trees, lamp posts, benches and shrubbery, police said.
No one was injured.
Kaymore, who had been stopped for driving without headlights and suspicion of driving under the influence, climbed out of the wreckage and fled, police said.
At the time, he was named in four warrants stemming from probation and contempt of court violations. He faced arraignment Wednesday on new charges, including interference with government property and aggravated assault on a police officer.
