Eunice (Peg) Loughridge Fincher
Mrs. Eunice (Peg) Loughridge Fincher, 92, of Chatsworth passed away Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2007, at Hamilton Medical Center.
Mrs. Fincher was born Dec. 14, 1914, in Murray County, daughter of the late James Patton Loughridge and Etta Jane Dickey Loughridge.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, former state Sen. William W. Fincher Jr. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Her husband, her family and her church were the centerpieces of her life.
Mrs. Fincher attended Maryville College and the University of Georgia, after which she taught elementary school in Murray County for several years.
Mrs. Fincher joined Chatsworth First United Methodist Church in 1936 and was active until her death. She held almost every church office, and taught Sunday school for more than 50 years. She was active in the UMW for almost 70 years. Besides her involvement with church and family, Peg Fincher was an active member of many civic organizations through the years. She was the first regent of the Robert Loughridge Chapter NSDAR and past president of the Chatsworth Women’s Club. She helped organize the Murray County Band Boosters Club. She was one of Dalton State College’s original trustees from 1967-1971. She was a longtime member of the League of Women Voters, member of the Chatsworth Eastern Star, and member of the Whitfield-Murray Historical Society.
Mrs. Fincher is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Jane and Hugh Peterson of Atlanta, Phyllis and Huber Parsons of Coral Gables, Fla., and Frances and Nat Hansford of Lexington; grandchildren, Hugh Peterson III (Elizabeth Greene), Bill Peterson, Richard Peterson, Patience Peterson, Capt. Huber R. Parsons III (Angela Barr), Capt. William Parsons (Molly McClintock), Christine Parson, 1st Lt. Charles Parsons, Nate Hansford, and Mary Frances Hansford; three great-grandchildren, Sarah Jane and Katherine Peterson and Will Parsons; beloved sister, Ruth Ann Loughridge Pannell of Atlanta and nephews, Judge Charles A. Pannell, James L. Pannell and William A. Pannell.
The funeral is Friday at 2 p.m. at Chatsworth First United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Chatsworth Heights Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 6 to 8 p.m.
