CHATSWORTH — Anyone building in the county will have to pay new inspection fees beginning July 1 after sole commissioner Jim Welch approved the new fees Tuesday.

A residential fee will be $250 for the first 1,000 square feet and 20 cents for each square foot more than 1,000. The new fee includes soil erosion, plumbing, and electrical inspections, which are now separate fees. Currently anyone building a house has to pay 8 cents per square foot, plus $58 per each acre for soil erosion, $15 for plumbing, and various fees for electrical depending on how many amps are involved.

Someone putting in a mobile home will pay $200 for a single wide, $250 for a double wide and $300 for a triple wide. Currently, the fee is $145 for a single wide and $175 for a double wide.

Other fee amounts are available in the commissioner’s office in the courthouse annex.

Also at the meeting, Welch approved:

* Changing communication tower permit fees from $3,000 to $5,000 and changing co-location fees from $600 to $750.

* An amendment to an ordinance on adult entertainment establishments that requires owners to obtain a license from the code enforcement officer instead of the commissioner. It also states the annual license is $2,500. Welch said he is not condoning adult entertainment, but he cannot legally keep certain types of establishments from opening. But he can make them obtain a license.

* Constructing bathrooms and storage space for the high school baseball team at the recreation center on Chestnut Street. The cost is approximately $18,000 and will be paid for from extra 2002 Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) funds.
