Nick Cahill, 17, of Dalton, has been honored for his volunteer service with a President’s Volunteer Service Award.

The award, which recognizes Americans of all ages who have volunteered significant amounts of their time to serve their communities and their country, was presented by the Prudential Spirit of Community Awards program on behalf of the President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation. Cahill participated in the Spirit of Community program this year as a representative of the Green Willow Christian Academy home school in Dalton, where he is a senior.

He received the award for volunteering with local ministries in Dalton, as a relief worker in areas struck by Hurricane Katrina, and as a member of the Liberty Baptist Church Medical Missions Team in Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic.

“The recipients of these awards vividly demonstrate that young people across America are making remarkable contributions to the health and vitality of their communities,” said Art Ryan, chairman and CEO of Prudential Financial. “They truly deserve all of the praise and encouragement we can give them.”

Cahill is an active member of Liberty Baptist Church, where he sings with the youth praise band and the church choir. He is the son of Chris and Lisa Cahill.
