BREAKING NEWS: Stepdaughter charged with murder in Gordon County

A 47-year-old Gordon County man was found dead at 1071 Highway 136 (Resaca-Nickelsville Road) near Resaca in unincorporated Gordon County Monday afternoon at about 1 p.m., Sheriff Mitch Ralston said. Deputy sheriffs responded to a report of a shooting and the man’s 16-year-old stepdaughter was arrested and charged with murder.

The 911 call had been placed by a person who lived at the residence, the sheriff said in a press release. The deputies found the body of Lynn Defoor, of the residence. He appeared to have been killed by gunfire, Ralston said. Two other family members were at the scene. After reviewing evidence and questioning witnesses, Alison Mary Gresham, Defoor’s stepdaughter who lived at the residence, was charged with murder as an adult in Gordon County Superior Court. She is being held at a regional youth detention center pending a bond hearing.

Ralston said more arrests are possible.

Detectives were assisted by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s (GBI) Crime Scene Unit. Detectives found the firearm they believe was used in the shooting.
