In 1984 in a rented building in downtown, Jim Davis, Dwight Souther and Mark Souther began a business that was relatively new in Dalton at the time. With one extruding machine, Star Molded Plastics began making plastic parts. In 1987, Dwight Souther became sole owner and moved the business to the Dawnville community. He began expanding by adding more extruders. In 1995, the company acquired injection molding machines. Shortly thereafter, tubing was added.
Today, Star Molded Plastics has 23 extruding machines, 13 injection molding machines (from 15 tons to 500 tons) and six tubing lines. In addition to furnishing plastic parts to many local sample companies, the company produces several tubing sizes in various materials. Star Molded Plastics has approximately 20 employees.
“We have weathered the many and varied problems that come and go with business,” Dwight Souther said. “We plan to be here for many more years providing our own community and beyond with their plastic needs and excellent service.”
