The Catholic Campaign for Human Development will award local community grants up to $4,000 to small community-based organizations in north Georgia working to address poverty “by means of systemic change.” The organization must be nonpartisan and in line with Catholic social teaching.

Projects eligible for funding should focus on righting social injustices while helping low-income people to participate in the decisions and actions that affect their lives, empowering them to move beyond poverty, the organization says. The deadline to apply is Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2010. To download an application, visit www.catholiccharitiesatlanta.org/services/psjm/cchd.html.

The Catholic Campaign for Human Development is the Catholic Church’s domestic anti-poverty program established by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops. The organization emphasizes empowerment and participation for low-income people. By helping them to participate in the decisions and actions that affect their lives, CCHD empowers them to move beyond poverty.
