Oxendine not sure he’d lobby for transportation

Republican gubernatorial hopeful John Oxendine says that as a voter he’ll support a transportation funding plan. But he won’t commit to using the bully pulpit as governor to lobby Georgians to do the same.

Oxendine said he would have a lot on his plate if elected and is not sure encouraging voters to back the plan to let regions boost their sales tax by one cent to fund transportation would be a top priority.

His three leading opponents — Nathan Deal, Karen Handel and Eric Johnson — all told business leaders on Tuesday that they would use their influence as governor to lobby voters to push the measure through.

The four leading GOP candidates were taking part in a candidate forum sponsored by the Metro-Atlanta Chamber of Commerce.
