Brannon responds to Bethel endorsement

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to express my views on your choice for state Senate. I realized that my expectations of earning an endorsement in my opposition’s front yard were less than favorable. Your paper has reported on him for several years.

During my 20-minute interview with your staff, I honestly expressed to you that I had no silver bullet to fix the mess that our beloved state currently faces. I also expressed that I did not believe that another tax exemption for “special groups” was the answer to our woes. I have enough experience to know that when we exempt a “special group” from one tax it is often made up on the backs of working people and property owners. It is sometimes disguised as a “fee increase” or as “re-assessment.”

As I said, I have no specific agenda to advance other than to represent the good people of the 54th District to the best of my ability. Too often we elect someone to go to the Gold Dome to get favors and draft legislation for themselves or someone else.

I do think that someone new is needed, but I do not believe that any one person should “camp out” in the Legislature just to advance their stature or promote an idea that may or may not be good for Georgia.

If I am elected, I hope we get a chance for you, your staff and the people of the 54th District to get to know me better.
