In 2009, 421 families were given clothing vouchers and 14 families who were victims of fire were given furniture vouchers to shop at the store. So far in 2010 the numbers are about the same.
In addition, The Salvation Army supports four transitional housing units for homeless families and in 2009 provided 471 families with financial assistance. This assistance pays the entire power bill or rent for a family and to qualify the power company or landlord (mortgage company) must agree to give the family 30 more days of service or let them stay in their home for at least 30 more days.
The Salvation Army also operates a food center that served 3,285 families in 2009, providing each family with enough food for approximately one week.
You can donate items to the store, which is at 1102 North Thornton Ave., by dropping them off during business hours or by scheduling a pickup for larger donations. To schedule a pickup call the office at 706-278-3966. Please do not leave items on the curb after hours.
